May the 4th Be With You-Star Wars at the Hanger 2017

In celebration of Star Wars day I wanted to share our trip to the Wings Over The Rockies Star Wars exhibit we visited last weekend.  It was our first time at this museum and we enjoyed it so much we ended up getting a membership!

There was a LOT to do but because this event is only one day, the wait to get in was long. We got there at noon when it started and the line was so huge we didn’t even get in to the building until 1:30. Liam did really good waiting so patiently in line for so long but near the end of the trip he just lost it. He was tired, hungry and way over-stimulated.

When we finally got into the giant airplane hanger there were lines for EVERYTHING, which is why we didn’t get to do a whole lot. My four year old just couldn’t stand in any more lines and I don’t blame him. There were games, free crafts for the kids, a book signing from the creator of the death star… and one of the best parts was the canteen for adults upstairs. After standing in line for an hour and a half Nate and I needed a drink! It was decorated with cool Star Wars memoribilia and they served interesting cocktails. I was drawn to the blue drink (not sure the name) because it was in this giant bowl and was bubbling and had dry ice floating on top. Unfortantely, it was vodka with milk and blue caraco and I was NOT ready for a stiff drink after all. Especially with milk. Nate drank mine anways so none was wasted ! haha

Here are some of the photos from the Canteena. They had the servers dressed up and had Star Wars music playing.

There were many really cool costumes that looked like the real deal! Both people working this event and people attending were all decked out in their best Star Wars attire. Liam loved it ! He did get pretty freaked out by Darth Vadar though so we didn’t get a photo of him.

There was a robotics group there that had a BB8 and an R2D2 that moved around and made noises. THAT was pretty neat!

I wanted to buy an autographed book and talk with former Lucasfilm modeler, Colin Cantwell (Creator of the Death Star!)  but the line for that, like everything, was just too long.

There was an X Wing and a pod racer that you could go and sit in and get your picture taken. There was a super fun game where you got to shoot a nerf gun at this guy dressed as a storm trooper. It was hilarious to watch that.

Liam was a bit freaked out by these guys too so he clung to Dad

Liam thought this Anikan was real at first ! It was hilarious

They had some really cool prints for sale but we didn’t end up getting any. Maybe next time!

They gave out lightsabers to all the kids made from pool noodles which was a lot of fun for the kids but I am pretty sure every parent there was about to lose their mind. Every child was swinging this pool noodle around, fighting each other and hitting EVERYTHING with these things.

Of course Liam has a Spiderman mask on at a Star Wars event hah!

One of the employees had told me that he heard they were thinking about making this one-day event a month-long exhibit next year, and I really hope that they do ! It was so cool but just way too many people. We missed out on a lot of the activities because the lines were just too long.

So, if you plan on going next year, here are my tips:

  1. Get there EARLY. It starts at noon so get there at least by 11:00. Maybe even 10:30. There is very limited parking so we had to park a few blocks away .
  2. Purchase your tickets online before the day of the event ! The line for purchased tickets was 1/4 the length of the line we were in. But when we went to buy them online the day of, we couldn’t.
  3. Eat before you go!
  4. Don’t order the blue cocktail (unless of course you really like vodka and milk)
  5. As soon as you get there get in line for the X-Wing Starfighter so you can sit in it and take some great photos. Then after that I would head to the green screen that they had set up. That long wasn’t too long because it was all the way at the back of the hanger but by the time we found it, Liam over everything and we had to get out of there due to our screaming four year old.

I can’t wait to go back and look at all the planes when it’s not so crazy busy. This is a really cool museum and they even offer classes and a summer camp. Here is more info on the event: https://wingsmuseum.org/event/starwars/

Thanks for stopping by!

Happy Star Wars Day!

May the 4th be with you

I wish you could smell these garden roses and this I wish you could smell these garden roses and this eucalyptus 😍
It's been a long time since I treated myself to some flowers, and they really do make me so happy.

It was 61 degrees and sunny today, and I needed the warm fresh air. Theo has been having serious sleep issues where he's screaming for hours every night. He has still yet to sleep through the night, and now he's up for hours at a time, and there's nothing I can do to soothe him. We are all exhausted. And now the only time he naps is if we're in the car. Lord, give me strength 🙏
The chiropractor doesn't seem to be helping, and I've called 3 pediatricians to only hear they're all booked until mid to late March for an appointment.
I've had a headache for 4 days now that is just relentless, making it hard to concentrate on anything. My hip is already killing me and I'm only 16 weeks pregnant 😩
It's been a rough several days.
So fresh flowers and epsom salt baths and essential oils and tea have been life-giving.
Home education with a busy crazy toddler... oh, th Home education with a busy crazy toddler... oh, the struggle is real 😆
He craves constant attention, needs a snack every 35 minutes, wants to climb on everything and everyone around him, and he cannot communicate his needs yet, but has THE biggest emotions.
My older son struggles with concentrating on his work anyways, so throw a loud toddler in the mix that just wants brother to play with him... it can feel chaotic.

So we take lots of wiggle and play breaks and it really benefits us all. I get 10 min to clean up or kick my feet up. The boys get to spend quality time together, use their imaginations, run around, and get their wiggles out.
And I'm trying to get better at setting up mess-free activities and busy work for Theo to keep him occupied for longer.
It hit me today as I observed this absolutely adorable scene of them playing restaurant while I made lunch...
If Liam was in school, Theo would only see him a few hours a day during the week and on weekends. They'd both be missing out on so much.

I know that's "normal" for any family's that choose public school, and there's of course nothing wrong with that at all. I'm just glad we all get to spend our days together, even when they're difficult.

This life we have chosen can be so draining. I am really starting to feel the exhaustion that comes along with pregnancy these days. But I see so many beautiful moments like this throughout the week, and I feel very blessed indeed that we get to do life this way.
Yesterday we visited @seaquestlynchburg and had su Yesterday we visited @seaquestlynchburg and had such an amazing time ! The highlights were the stingrays showing off and squirting water at us, and the birds eating out of Liam's hand. For Theodore, it was all just fascinating. Every animal got an "ooo" and "awww" and wide eyes and a pudgy little finger pointing at it or a little hand excitedly waving high.
Then we spent some time at the little toddler play area in the mall where Theo hugged every kid there and had the biggest smile on his face the whole time.
I would say this week's homeschool field trip was a success!
Next week we're checking out our local library, and the week after that, the children's museum.
It's always so fun to explore a new area. ☺️

I don't always get a few quiet moments to myself, I don't always get a few quiet moments to myself, but when I do, I make the most of it !
I put on a homemaker or homesteading podcast, light a candle, sip hot tea...
It gives me time to slow down and take deep breaths, and relax a bit. (And I'll be honest, this time often also has a good snack involved or some dark chocolate I hid on the top shelf of the pantry 😆)

I spent some time yesterday during nap time restocking some herbs in my new apothecary cabinet. I filled jars of nettle, peppermint, red raspberry leaf, and rosemary. These dark amber jars are on Amazon and pretty perfect for storing herbs !
I'm dreaming of what herbs I'll be drying from my garden to add to these shelves 🤩

I'm curious- if you use herbs in your home, what are your top 3 most used ?
S'mores, burning brush, snuggling up with a blanke S'mores, burning brush, snuggling up with a blanket, and admiring our new house on the hill.

We've been busy setting up our new home, finding places for everything, and thrifting some furniture. Theo is already use to the new house and his new room. He loves the playroom in the basement and having a real bath tub!
Liam had his first playdate on Friday, and we're planning out his lego table this week. Nate has been busy fixing things around the house and helping me hang art and things all over.
It feels good to be finding a new rythm again. To have a regular bath night, and cooking big meals we eat around the table my grandpa built. We're dreaming of the garden this Spring, what fencing we can put up for animals, what color to paint the house...
and it just feels so so good to be in our own home again where we can do what we want and plan and dream for the future.
