Travel Toiletries Checklist + What’s In My Carry On

travel toiletries checklist

Two trips in two weeks is a first for me! Last weekend we went to Montana (you can read about our adventures here). And now I leave for Dallas tomorrow ! Normally I am only flying once or twice a year to fly back to Chicago but this year has been the year of travel for me! And I have to say, I am LOVING it.

This post contains affiliate links. I received some of these products in exchange for a review. ALL opinions are my own. To read my full disclaimer click here.

I am one of those weirdos who loves checklists and organizing a suitcase. Packing a suitcase makes me so aware of what products and clothes I actually use and love. Which has been making it easier for me to start purging my closet and bathroom drawers of things I never use or wear.

**For a printable version of the checklist click here

I use the toiletries checklist whenever I am flying. Obviously if you don’t wear glasses or contacts, you wouldn’t need those things… and I left a few spaces blank for you to write in anything else you need to add to the list. This is my checklist for a CHECKED BAG. Since I don’t have to worry about liquids, I just pack what I want without paring down too much. I do always put opened containers that tend to leak in small plastic baggies, just to make sure they don’t get all over everything.

A great way to get small sample sizes of great products is by subscribing to a beauty subscription box ! I get so many of my travel sized products from Fab Fit Fun, Birchbox, Ipsy etc. travel toiletries checklist

  6. Eye glasses
  7. Headband to hold my hair back while I am washing my face and applying makeup. Just one of those little things that can make getting ready so much easier.
  8. [amazon_textlink asin=’B072FJL8YZ’ text=’Humble brand deodorant in Cedarwood ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’ba63ebe8-989c-11e7-a75c-0120b3e58892′] This is my FAVORITE deodorant! No toxic chemicals and it actually works !
  9. Bobby pins and hair ties in a small linen drawstring bag
  10. [amazon_textlink asin=’B01IMYFH8K’ text=’Hair Brush’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’f4ed4506-989c-11e7-95e9-ed6387b4cfa2′]

  15. I bring Dr. Teal’s Soothe & Sleep Bubble Bath’when I know I will be staying at a hotel. Often they have big soaking tubs and who doesn’t love a hot bubble bath on vacay? Soak in the tub with your face mask on and you have a mini spa night!
  16. [amazon_textlink asin=’B000OO7MTY’ text=’Neutrogena Clean for Color- Color Defending Conditioner’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’a6b33851-989d-11e7-bfde-03ee202687c9′] (I always bring an extra hair conditioner because I use so much of it!)
  17. Toothbrush and toothpaste
  18. [amazon_textlink asin=’B01KIT6SFI’ text=’Unwash Bio-Cleansing Conditioner’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’b1244988-98b4-11e7-96f3-43122bb178de’] is amazing for travel because it’s like a two-in-one. It replaces shampoo while also being a conditioner.
  19. [amazon_textlink asin=’B010E1PP04′ text=’EOS Shave Cream’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’f3b4a8d6-989d-11e7-8ce3-dfc7b523fdf9′]
  20. New sharp razor. I have been using one from Harry’s! It is very sharp and I do have to be careful not to get razor burn (darn sensitive skin). I love that it comes with a little case to cover the blade- perfect for travel. The handle is nice and grippy so it doesn’t slip right out of my hand when shaving. The razor came in a nice set too- would be a perfect gift!
  21. Bar of soap. I get most of my soap from a little shop in Idaho Springs. They are the BEST! They last a long time, have amazing scents and are just really well-made. I love my little soap saver I bought from them, too. You can hang it up in your shower so your soap bar doesn’t get slimy and icky sitting in a tray. And it acts as an exfoliant, too. You can order online too! The Soap Shop
  22. [amazon_textlink asin=’B01L3V6Q02′ text=’The Body Shop British Rose’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’4c1a45c1-98a7-11e7-bf9c-7d33ef61c448′] single use face mask is the best! I love that you can buy these samples for travel. Traveling can make your skin so dry and irritated so I always pack a face mask!
  23. [amazon_textlink asin=’B001W03AJA’ text=’Bella B Foaming Face Wash’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’402af5ce-98b1-11e7-a3c4-69dbededb0f8′]

  25. [amazon_textlink asin=’B00RAP5O3Q’ text=’Yes To Cucumbers Soothing Facial Wipes ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’6f047a88-98b0-11e7-b3ea-2ded880805a7′]for makeup remover and to freshen up after the pool
  26. [amazon_textlink asin=’B01GBOL4QC’ text=’The Body Shop Vitamin E Hydrating Toner’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’990559a4-98b0-11e7-bede-4dc5717ff91f’]
  27. [amazon_textlink asin=’B001MA7N8O’ text=’Juice Beauty Smoothing Eye Concentrate ‘ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’b1885fa1-98b0-11e7-b2bb-8d75a04fe5ba’]
  28. [amazon_textlink asin=’B01M7WGQ9P’ text=’Honest Beauty Younger Face Moisturizer’ template=’ProductLink’ store=’Newmommasurvival’ marketplace=’US’ link_id=’cf0cfb6e-98b0-11e7-bfef-2928baf62a74′]
  29. I don’t ever travel with a blow dryer because most hotels have them, and when I am staying with friends and family, they most likely have one too. I will just bring either a curling iron or straightener with.

I got this cute 4 piece train case set from Ross for only $16! I have seen the same brand/product at Free People ! Having the right size cosmetics cases is important when you are trying to maximize space in your suitcase. I love this one because the large clear bag is perfect for all my bath and body items and the next size down is perfect for my makeup, which then fits right in that clear bag! Makes it so much easier to find everything in my suitcase. travel toiletries checklist

Usually I am flying with my kiddo, so this will be my first solo flight since 2011! I am READY. You know you’re a mom when you are even excited to just fly alone. I can actually take a nap ! Or read! Or just relax! Ahh… bliss. I love my kiddo of course, but this mommy trip is WAY overdue!

So since it’s just me heading to Texas, I have a small personal item for on the plane. I got this cute simple tote from Forever 21. It’s the perfect size to slide underneath the seat in front of you while still be large enough to hold all my stuff.

travel toiletries checklist

I don’t pack a lot for myself on the plane but I do have a few necessities!

What’s In My Carry On:

  1. A lightweight long scarf to snuggle up in. I use a warmer one during the cold months and a lightweight in the warm months.
  2. My journal and pen to jot things down, doodle or make lists
  3. Wallet with Debit and credit cards, ID, insurance card etc.
  4. Sleep Mask ( I always bring one but never get to sleep… maybe this time I will!)
  5. Water bottle
  6. Magazines
  7. My cell and charger
  8. Earphones
  9. Hand sanitizer (I use the Young Living kind- its the best! No nasty chemicals, yay!)
  10. Small hand cream
  11. Hair tie
  12. Gum
  13. Chapstick
  14. A couple essential oils- this time I am bringing Stress Away and a rollerball pain relief blend

Don’t forget your plastic ziploc baggie to put your liquids in!

A few other items you may want to bring on the plane:

  • Headache medicine
  • Any prescription meds you have (wouldn’t want those to be lost in your checked bag!)
  • Laptop or Ipad
  • Tissues
  • Wet wipes
  • Snacks ( I usually just end up buying something in the airport or on the plane but sometimes come prepared with snacks)
  • Neck pillow
  • Portable cell phone charger

Remember to always prepare for long lines at security. I know this is common sense, and everyone tells you to get there two hours early. Well, I hate sitting in the airport for too long with my son- he gets so antsy that we usually get there to just have enough time to grab a bite, go to the bathroom and board. Well, I got so use to the short lines at DIA that when I got stuck in the longest line I ever saw…(Labor day weekend) I almost missed my flight ! It was not fun, to say the least. Running through the airport dragging my four year old behind and yelling at him to RUN was quite the site I am sure. I learned my lesson!

I hope this checklist helps!

Is there anything you always travel with I didn’t mention? Taking any trips soon? Let me know in the comments below, I love to chat!

I’m definitely pinning this! I travel with bare minimum and most days my hair is crazy just because I don’t want to deal with TSA. This is awesome!

Most of the items you carry matches with my list. But never carried a scarf and it sounds a great idea. Adding a new scarf to my tote bag very soon. Thank you for sharing.

I love how organized you are! I have a super basic list for when we travel (which isn’t often) but I absolutely hate the idea of forgetting something that I will need or wish I had.

Home education with a busy crazy toddler... oh, th Home education with a busy crazy toddler... oh, the struggle is real 😆
He craves constant attention, needs a snack every 35 minutes, wants to climb on everything and everyone around him, and he cannot communicate his needs yet, but has THE biggest emotions.
My older son struggles with concentrating on his work anyways, so throw a loud toddler in the mix that just wants brother to play with him... it can feel chaotic.

So we take lots of wiggle and play breaks and it really benefits us all. I get 10 min to clean up or kick my feet up. The boys get to spend quality time together, use their imaginations, run around, and get their wiggles out.
And I'm trying to get better at setting up mess-free activities and busy work for Theo to keep him occupied for longer.
It hit me today as I observed this absolutely adorable scene of them playing restaurant while I made lunch...
If Liam was in school, Theo would only see him a few hours a day during the week and on weekends. They'd both be missing out on so much.

I know that's "normal" for any family's that choose public school, and there's of course nothing wrong with that at all. I'm just glad we all get to spend our days together, even when they're difficult.

This life we have chosen can be so draining. I am really starting to feel the exhaustion that comes along with pregnancy these days. But I see so many beautiful moments like this throughout the week, and I feel very blessed indeed that we get to do life this way.
Yesterday we visited @seaquestlynchburg and had su Yesterday we visited @seaquestlynchburg and had such an amazing time ! The highlights were the stingrays showing off and squirting water at us, and the birds eating out of Liam's hand. For Theodore, it was all just fascinating. Every animal got an "ooo" and "awww" and wide eyes and a pudgy little finger pointing at it or a little hand excitedly waving high.
Then we spent some time at the little toddler play area in the mall where Theo hugged every kid there and had the biggest smile on his face the whole time.
I would say this week's homeschool field trip was a success!
Next week we're checking out our local library, and the week after that, the children's museum.
It's always so fun to explore a new area. ☺️

I don't always get a few quiet moments to myself, I don't always get a few quiet moments to myself, but when I do, I make the most of it !
I put on a homemaker or homesteading podcast, light a candle, sip hot tea...
It gives me time to slow down and take deep breaths, and relax a bit. (And I'll be honest, this time often also has a good snack involved or some dark chocolate I hid on the top shelf of the pantry 😆)

I spent some time yesterday during nap time restocking some herbs in my new apothecary cabinet. I filled jars of nettle, peppermint, red raspberry leaf, and rosemary. These dark amber jars are on Amazon and pretty perfect for storing herbs !
I'm dreaming of what herbs I'll be drying from my garden to add to these shelves 🤩

I'm curious- if you use herbs in your home, what are your top 3 most used ?
S'mores, burning brush, snuggling up with a blanke S'mores, burning brush, snuggling up with a blanket, and admiring our new house on the hill.

We've been busy setting up our new home, finding places for everything, and thrifting some furniture. Theo is already use to the new house and his new room. He loves the playroom in the basement and having a real bath tub!
Liam had his first playdate on Friday, and we're planning out his lego table this week. Nate has been busy fixing things around the house and helping me hang art and things all over.
It feels good to be finding a new rythm again. To have a regular bath night, and cooking big meals we eat around the table my grandpa built. We're dreaming of the garden this Spring, what fencing we can put up for animals, what color to paint the house...
and it just feels so so good to be in our own home again where we can do what we want and plan and dream for the future.
We got this gorgeous 1964 Thomasville china hutch We got this gorgeous 1964 Thomasville china hutch for $100 off FB marketplace! 🤩 It took 2 trips an hour away to bring this big gal home.
This is by far my most favorite piece of furniture I've ever owned. My original plan for this piece was to hold and display all my china, tea cups, and table linens.
But I also needed storage for all my herbs, herbal books, tinctures, salves, etc. I added a few jars of herbs and knew this needed to be a moody apothecary cabinet stat!
I threw a bunch of other decor and little things I love in there. I'm sure I'll rearrange it a dozen times before I love it. My goal is for two whole shelves to be filled with dried herbs from our garden by Fall. 🤍
I've got candles in a drawer, tablecloths in another, and the top drawer is random things, supplies and tinctures. The right cupboard is holding all my vases & jars, and the left cupboard is holding all my herbal and homesteading magazines.

What is the best FB marketplace find you've scored ??
I think this is my favorite!
