A Simple Colorful Holiday Craft With Goldfish Crackers

With holidays here and the craziness of shopping, baking, planning, traveling… it is so important for us all to just slow down and take the time to make memories with our children. It is so easy for me to get wrapped up with my to-do list that I need to be mindful of what the holidays really means to me and my family.Goldfish crackers

We love crafts over here and I try to have simple and fun activities and crafts to keep my preschooler busy. I am sharing an easy and fun craft for your kiddos using supplies you probably already have around your house!

Grab a cup of hot cocoa, put on your favorite holiday music and get ready to make lasting memories with your children.

Supplies:

  1. Cardboard toilet paper roll
  2. Green construction paper
  3. Children’s scissors
  4. Colorful Goldfish Crackers
  5. Glitter (optional)
  6. Glue
  7. Marker for tracing
  8. Sequins or pom poms
  9. Pipe cleaner
  10. Brown paint and paint brush
  11. Ribbon

Step 1

Paint the cardboard tube with brown paint and let sit to dry.

Step 2

Draw a christmas tree shape on green construction paper. Then have your child cut the shape out with safety scissors. (This is great scissor practice!)

Step 3

Decorate the tree with Goldfish crackers, sequins, pom moms, glitter or stickers, and ribbon

Step 4

Once the cardboard tube is dry, help your child glue the tree to the cardboard tube leaving some tube showing as the trunk of the tree.

Step 5

We wrapped a gold glittery pipe cleaner around the base of the tree to add some sparkle. ( I ended up needing a dab of hot glue to get this one to stick!)

We added a large pom pom for the “star” of the Christmas tree

You can make a few of these and have your kids gift them to neighbors or friends! We made a few trees because Liam just didn’t want to stop glueing!

Want a reason to have a playdate? While the kids are on holiday break, invite some friends over to make several of these trees to gift to your local senior citizen home.

They will be so proud to give out their masterpieces and learn the joyful feeling of giving.

Looking for more great crafts and activities ? Head to the Goldfish crackers Pinterest page for great holiday activity, craft, and mix ideas to create those Goldfish moments together as a family.

Did you know Goldfish crackers are colored naturally using plants??

I hope you got to spend some quality time with your family during the holiday break!

Cute idea! I’m not sure how many of the fish would make it on our trees but I might just have to find out!

This has been the fastest year of my life. Time se This has been the fastest year of my life. Time seems to be flying by at an astonishing speed. Anyone else ?
I keep thinking we just moved here and realized it’s been almost a year in VA ! How on earth is that even possible?
At the same time, it feels like it has been years since we’ve been in Montana and a lifetime since Denver. I feel like Theo was just born but also I feel like baby Ben has been here with us for ages. Time is weird. I remember as a child, I would roll my eyes to adults talking about how fast I was growing and how time was flying. To me, time moved at a snails pace and I just couldn’t wait for the next big thing. To be double digits old, to be a teenager, to be out of high school… even when I became a mama with my first, I was always looking forward to his next milestone. It will be easier once he sits up, when he starts to crawl, when he talks, when I can send him to school. As a young first time, mom, with no real support system or family around, I think I was in survival mode for a long time. I wish I could go back and savor each and every moment, and not always be looking ahead. Now in this season of my life, it can be hard for me to look ahead at all. I can’t even imagine Ben and Theo older. Or my almost 11 year old as a high schooler.
I miss the days when the time between breakfast and dinner seemed like an eternity. When I was a child bored sitting outside in my backyard creating and imagining magical worlds and completely unaware what time it was.
Anyone relate?
We spent Thanksgiving down in NC with my family an We spent Thanksgiving down in NC with my family and had such a good time. We did a lot in just a few days, but Liam’s favorite part was catching lizards with his cousin. Look at that grin !
My favorite part was going through our old family slides and getting in a quick kayak trip with my sisters. It was fun to be all together for meals and seeing the kids hang out. Liam has never grown up around any cousins because we’ve always lived in a different state. It made me sad for what he may be missing out on. When I was a child, my dad’s side of the family got together for Christmas and the house was full with kids running around. I have some really great memories in that house. We do try to see my immediate family for Christmas at least every other year, and this year we combined Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was a chaotic but special time. I was really missing my sisters and wish they lived down here. But I’m actually closer to Illinois than I have ever been. And I’m only 5 hours from my folks now. It’s been 12 years this December since we left home to move out West. (Feels longer)
Holidays are usually the hardest for me, and I get so homesick. Now I have a weird feeling of missing my sisters in Illinois but also crazy homesick for Montana. These past few weeks my heart has ached for home there. I never missed Colorado like I miss Montana. My entire family misses it there and sometimes I wish we never had to leave. If only it wasn’t a 36 hour drive from my parents in NC ! 😩 And I do cherish all this time I’ve been able to spend with my parents here.
Do you live away from your home state ? Do the holidays make you homesick too?
Four months old ! Benny, you are so loved 💕 Be Four months old ! Benny, you are so loved 💕

Benjamin is celebrating his first Thanksgiving surrounded by family down in North Carolina. My sisters and their family’s drove down from Illinois and my boys are loving being around their cousins. It’s nice being all together this year.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I have been using and loving @bendsoapcompany for I have been using and loving @bendsoapcompany for me and my kids for a while now, and I can’t say enough good things about this brand and their products. I just got some of their special holiday scents, and oh how I wish you could smell this box ! Mint mocha, peppermint, holly berry, chai tea … 😍 SO good. I need to order Winter Woods and Pine because they’re probably amazing and I think my hubby would like those.
You can create your own seasonal gift set or shop one that they have curated on their website. They are super affordable and high quality and come in a cute box ready for gifting (or for yourself😉) I know you’re going to love it. Everything is natural and great for sensitive skin. I am prone to eczema on my hands in the winter, and the goats milk soap really makes a difference.
Consider shopping small this Black Friday ! Their entire shop will be 20% off !
Please use my link in my bio (affiliate) to check out all the different products and gift ideas they have. The lip balms and bars of soap are perfect stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, or neighbor gifts. If you have any questions about products, DM and I can tell ya what I’ve tried so far and what I recommend.
It’s been years since I’ve done an intro post It’s been years since I’ve done an intro post , so here it goes!
I’m Natalie (or Nat) - mama of 3 boys, wife to Nate. If you’ve been around since the beginning, many years ago I was newmommasurvival where I blogged about my life in Denver. Then in 2018 we moved to NW Montana and my handle was changed to My Mountain Wild. We very unexpectedly had to leave MT and moved to NC last year, to live near my parents who retired there. Then I switched my handle because I thought we would be staying on the coast. This past January we ended up buying a house here in the blue ridge mountains of Virginia. (I was missing the mtns!) I’ve thought about going back to My Mountain Wild because my Etsy shop is still that name.. what a pain to switch it all back over again ! I should have just waited. Oh well ! 🤦🏻‍♀️
So a little about me - I have a lot of interests, & that’s why you won’t see me sticking to the “rules” of niches here. We moved to a cute house on a hill in VA with 22 acres & BIG dreams for this property. We’ve just had so much going on that we haven’t been able to set any money aside for fencing yet. Once those fences are up, we will start acquiring our animals that I’ve dreamed of for many years.
I like to garden, have ducks & chickens, a rabbit named Copper, a white husky named Bowie, & 2 kittens- Bagheera + Kit Kat.
I am a homemaker, homeschool mama, & homesteader. See a theme here ? 😉
I am on my 4th full year homeschooling my 10 year old. We are “eclectic” homeschoolers because we follow a mix of styles.
The forest is my happy place, & I love to forage with my kids. I have been casually studying herbalism for the past 6 years & enjoy stocking my at-home apothecary. I strive for a slower simpler life, but end up pretty busy. I am a wildandfree leader which is a local outdoor homeschool nature group that meets on Fridays. I love Jesus and my family fiercely. I like to share tidbits of motherhood , crafts, pockets of my home, outdoor lifestyle, seasonal living, & really anything that makes me happy.
So thank you for being here ! And if you’re new, please check out my blog mysimplewild.com
