Luggage For the Organized Traveler

Thank you Oregami Luggage for sponsoring this post. All opinions are my own. To read my full disclaimer click here.

If you follow along on Instagram, you know that I just back from a two week trip to Montana, Portland, and Seattle. (Check out my Instagram highlights to see some of our trip!) To say this trip was epic is an understatement. It was by far the most meaningful and amazing trip I have ever been on. Look for upcoming posts all about our trip + travel guides and videos!

On our recent travels we brought along our favorite bags to haul all our things. Two large rolling duffle bags from Oregami Luggage was perfect for the three of us!

What I love About My Oregami Rolling Duffle Bag:

  • What makes Oregami unique is the built-in packing trays that fold out like an accordion. You can unzip these trays and place them right in the dresser drawer at the hotel. Not only is this super convenient, it also is a little more sanitary. I usually just leave my clothes in my suitcase and not unpack because the thought of putting my clothes in a dresser that is not mine kind of freaks me out. Who knows how often those are actually cleaned out??
  • It is easier to pack and stay organized ! With the three separate trays, I was able to pack clothes for my Portland and Seattle road trip in one tray, my clothes for the ranch in Montana in another and the third held my shoes and toiletries. It was so easy for me to find what I was looking for! It’s like a traveling chest of drawers!
  • The mesh on top makes it super easy to find what you are looking for before even zipping the tray open.
  • They are crazy durable. I have had a “nice” suitcase that started to wear the second time I flew with it! Our Oregami bags flew from Denver to Montana, thrown in a rental car and traveled to Seattle then Portland and then back to Montana. Then we flew back home to Denver! Not a scratch, tear or blemish. We are super impressed with the quality and durability of these bags. The ABS frame protects your items inside the bag so you can stack them without worrying about your things getting crushed.
  • Quality zippers are a must for a good piece of luggage and Oregami does not disappoint. Not once did my zipper get caught while closing or opening the bag.
  • Smooth rolling wheels are also a must for me and I loved how easy it was to zip through the airport.
  • Two Inside cargo pockets + a large mesh pocket perfect for underwear and socks + a small pocket on the outside of the bag is perfect to separate small items like phone chargers or toiletries.
  • Because of the three separate trays, Nathan and Liam were able to easily share a bag. Two compartments were full of Nate’s things and the third was just for Liam. This made it so easy to just unzip Liam’s tray and leave it in Montana with Grandma while Nate and I headed out on our road trip. Nate fit all of his clothes, toiletries, two pairs of shoes, and our portable hammock in his two trays!

What I packed for two weeks in three different states:

I wore my hiking boots through the airport to save room in my bag and the jean jacket I ended up buying in Seattle I wore home. I had room in my suitcase to still fit an oversized hoodie, a couple of books I bought from Powell City of Books, and could have squeezed in more. I definitely over-packed as I actually didnt end up wearing a couple of tops. It was so hot during the day in Montana and then freezing at night. Seattle was chilly, overcast and drizzling. Not shown is also my rain coat that I had packed too!

Montana:

4 pairs of shorts (probably could have done with just two!)

Leggings

3 tank tops

4 t-shirts

1 long sleeve t-shirt

Light flannel for layering

Cozy sweatshirt for cool nights

Hiking boot socks

Seattle and Portland

2 pairs of shorts

2 pairs of jeans

skirt

3 tops

Light weight sweater and kimono for layering

Cropped tank

Dress for photo shoot

(I also wore a top or two from my Montana tray)

The bottom tray I had my shoes, toiletries and curling iron. I had plenty of room to squeeze in more items but left it open for souvenirs to take home.

Sneakers for hiking and riding bikes

Mules to wear while walking around the city

Heels for my photo shoot

Toiletries (click here for my printable toiletries checklist!)

Makeup bag

Curling Iron

Glasses

Whether you travel several times a year or just once in awhile, investing in a quality suitcase is worth it. You won’t ever dread packing for a trip again!

I will be buying the half tray system soon and will show you all how I pack for that! Perfect to fit a sleeping bag/ camping gear on one side and my clothes and toiletries on the other. I look forward to many adventures with this bag and I am already packing for my next trip!

I had never owned a rolling duffel bag until I worked on a cruise ship, and let me tell you, it saved my life! Seriously, the cabins for staff and crew are so small, and having luggage that could fit under your bed was a lifesaver. I love how this one is so compartmentalized. This is definitely something I need in my life.

Oh, WOW! This is the dream travel bag. It looks quite tall, but look at how organized and spacious it is!
Is it fit as a hand luggage or a check-in one for airplanes?

Hi nat! i love all the different sections! For me having a way to organize is so key when packing. The rolling is a total bonus. No more trying to lift and carry heavy bags…just pull and go!

This has been the fastest year of my life. Time se This has been the fastest year of my life. Time seems to be flying by at an astonishing speed. Anyone else ?
I keep thinking we just moved here and realized it’s been almost a year in VA ! How on earth is that even possible?
At the same time, it feels like it has been years since we’ve been in Montana and a lifetime since Denver. I feel like Theo was just born but also I feel like baby Ben has been here with us for ages. Time is weird. I remember as a child, I would roll my eyes to adults talking about how fast I was growing and how time was flying. To me, time moved at a snails pace and I just couldn’t wait for the next big thing. To be double digits old, to be a teenager, to be out of high school… even when I became a mama with my first, I was always looking forward to his next milestone. It will be easier once he sits up, when he starts to crawl, when he talks, when I can send him to school. As a young first time, mom, with no real support system or family around, I think I was in survival mode for a long time. I wish I could go back and savor each and every moment, and not always be looking ahead. Now in this season of my life, it can be hard for me to look ahead at all. I can’t even imagine Ben and Theo older. Or my almost 11 year old as a high schooler.
I miss the days when the time between breakfast and dinner seemed like an eternity. When I was a child bored sitting outside in my backyard creating and imagining magical worlds and completely unaware what time it was.
Anyone relate?
We spent Thanksgiving down in NC with my family an We spent Thanksgiving down in NC with my family and had such a good time. We did a lot in just a few days, but Liam’s favorite part was catching lizards with his cousin. Look at that grin !
My favorite part was going through our old family slides and getting in a quick kayak trip with my sisters. It was fun to be all together for meals and seeing the kids hang out. Liam has never grown up around any cousins because we’ve always lived in a different state. It made me sad for what he may be missing out on. When I was a child, my dad’s side of the family got together for Christmas and the house was full with kids running around. I have some really great memories in that house. We do try to see my immediate family for Christmas at least every other year, and this year we combined Thanksgiving and Christmas. It was a chaotic but special time. I was really missing my sisters and wish they lived down here. But I’m actually closer to Illinois than I have ever been. And I’m only 5 hours from my folks now. It’s been 12 years this December since we left home to move out West. (Feels longer)
Holidays are usually the hardest for me, and I get so homesick. Now I have a weird feeling of missing my sisters in Illinois but also crazy homesick for Montana. These past few weeks my heart has ached for home there. I never missed Colorado like I miss Montana. My entire family misses it there and sometimes I wish we never had to leave. If only it wasn’t a 36 hour drive from my parents in NC ! 😩 And I do cherish all this time I’ve been able to spend with my parents here.
Do you live away from your home state ? Do the holidays make you homesick too?
Four months old ! Benny, you are so loved 💕 Be Four months old ! Benny, you are so loved 💕

Benjamin is celebrating his first Thanksgiving surrounded by family down in North Carolina. My sisters and their family’s drove down from Illinois and my boys are loving being around their cousins. It’s nice being all together this year.
I hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!
I have been using and loving @bendsoapcompany for I have been using and loving @bendsoapcompany for me and my kids for a while now, and I can’t say enough good things about this brand and their products. I just got some of their special holiday scents, and oh how I wish you could smell this box ! Mint mocha, peppermint, holly berry, chai tea … 😍 SO good. I need to order Winter Woods and Pine because they’re probably amazing and I think my hubby would like those.
You can create your own seasonal gift set or shop one that they have curated on their website. They are super affordable and high quality and come in a cute box ready for gifting (or for yourself😉) I know you’re going to love it. Everything is natural and great for sensitive skin. I am prone to eczema on my hands in the winter, and the goats milk soap really makes a difference.
Consider shopping small this Black Friday ! Their entire shop will be 20% off !
Please use my link in my bio (affiliate) to check out all the different products and gift ideas they have. The lip balms and bars of soap are perfect stocking stuffers, teacher gifts, or neighbor gifts. If you have any questions about products, DM and I can tell ya what I’ve tried so far and what I recommend.
It’s been years since I’ve done an intro post It’s been years since I’ve done an intro post , so here it goes!
I’m Natalie (or Nat) - mama of 3 boys, wife to Nate. If you’ve been around since the beginning, many years ago I was newmommasurvival where I blogged about my life in Denver. Then in 2018 we moved to NW Montana and my handle was changed to My Mountain Wild. We very unexpectedly had to leave MT and moved to NC last year, to live near my parents who retired there. Then I switched my handle because I thought we would be staying on the coast. This past January we ended up buying a house here in the blue ridge mountains of Virginia. (I was missing the mtns!) I’ve thought about going back to My Mountain Wild because my Etsy shop is still that name.. what a pain to switch it all back over again ! I should have just waited. Oh well ! 🤦🏻‍♀️
So a little about me - I have a lot of interests, & that’s why you won’t see me sticking to the “rules” of niches here. We moved to a cute house on a hill in VA with 22 acres & BIG dreams for this property. We’ve just had so much going on that we haven’t been able to set any money aside for fencing yet. Once those fences are up, we will start acquiring our animals that I’ve dreamed of for many years.
I like to garden, have ducks & chickens, a rabbit named Copper, a white husky named Bowie, & 2 kittens- Bagheera + Kit Kat.
I am a homemaker, homeschool mama, & homesteader. See a theme here ? 😉
I am on my 4th full year homeschooling my 10 year old. We are “eclectic” homeschoolers because we follow a mix of styles.
The forest is my happy place, & I love to forage with my kids. I have been casually studying herbalism for the past 6 years & enjoy stocking my at-home apothecary. I strive for a slower simpler life, but end up pretty busy. I am a wildandfree leader which is a local outdoor homeschool nature group that meets on Fridays. I love Jesus and my family fiercely. I like to share tidbits of motherhood , crafts, pockets of my home, outdoor lifestyle, seasonal living, & really anything that makes me happy.
So thank you for being here ! And if you’re new, please check out my blog mysimplewild.com
