As a child, May Day meant two things to me. One was that it meant school was almost over and Summer would be right around the corner! Second: an excuse to ding dong ditch my neighbors! We made some simple but adorable DIY May Day baskets today after school so I wanted to share! If you missed out on May Day, you can still bring your neighbors or friends flowers tomorrow! Or really whenever. You will be surprised how many people are overwhelmed with gratitude after you drop off just a few flowers on their porch. Flowers can instantly uplift people’s moods and it lets them know you were thinking of them.
Ok, let’s jump right in to this DIY May Day baskets tutorial!
Supplies:
- 12 x 12 scrapbook paper (or any paper you may have. Even newspaper could work!)
- Scissors
- Glue dots, tape, or hot glue
- Stapler
- Paper towel
- Plastic baggies ( I used party favor bags from the Dollar Tree)
- Fresh blooms and greenery

Start by trimming off an inch or two of paper to make a handle.
Then roll the paper into a cone shape and glue together. For the thicker cardstock paper I used hot glue and for the regular paper like this one I just used this Elmer’s Dot Runner.

Next you can staple your handle to either side of the cone.

I folded a small piece of the cone over at the bottom and stapled it.

While Liam was at school I made these tags and then had him write out his name under what I wrote. I tied these little tags around the handle of the cone.

After school we picked out a few fresh blooms, filler and greenery from the flower shop. I dipped paper towel into water that had flower food in it. Then I used clear plastic baggies (from the Dollar Tree) to keep the moisture in and the paper dry. I tied a thin piece of twine around it and then placed it in the paper cone.

We were in quite the rush so the blooms were kind of just shoved in there. But that’s ok!
