15 Getting Ready Wedding Photos You Should Have

15 Getting Ready Wedding Photos You Should Have

When chatting with your photographer about your wedding day photo list, don’t skip over the getting ready photos! You will want to remember those little moments of you and your bridesmaids getting ready and the groom getting ready. Here I am sharing my top 15 getting ready wedding photos you should have. This is for the soon-to-be bride or for new photographers looking for a simple list of photo ideas for this time before the ceremony.

My family and I got ready in our house and the groomsmen got ready in their airbnb. Our photographer sent her second shooter to capture the men getting ready while she shot our getting ready photos. It was perfection!

1.

Getting your makeup done or doing your makeup yourself. I love these shots because it reminded me of the few moments of calm during an extremely busy day.

2.

Admiring your dress. We got ready in my dining room/kitchen so we hung my dress up right on my shelves. It wasn’t anything glamorous but it was real and I want to look back and remember these tiny moments from that day.

3.

Pop the champagne! We only had a few minutes to pop some bubbly out on the porch before having to throw on our dresses and head to the ceremony site. We were behind schedule, as always, but we always make time for some bubbly!

4.

Your bridesmaid’s reactions when you come out with your dress on for the first time.

5.

Your mother helping you zip up your dress. This is a classic one that I just adore. I feel like this is an honoring moment that mothers look forward to!

6.

The bride putting on her accessories. I did not have any jewelry or fancy shoes (we got married in the woods so I wore bridal sandals from David’s Bridal) but my flower crown was the only accessory I needed. I was OBSESSED with how it turned out! I love photos of brides putting on her earrings or shoes. Those are photos you are going to want to look back on 50 years from now.

A good photographer will capture one single moment from several angles. I love this shot from the side!

7.

The flower girl getting ready. My best friend was fixing her daughters hair and my amazing photographer captured this moment. So precious!

8.

Capture your ring bearer before he gets a chance to get his outfit dirty! The ring bearer was my own crazy kiddo so it was extra special for me to help him get ready and get some shots of us together before the ceremony. These photos are the only time he even has his bow-tie on and before he spills an entire bottle of huckleberry pop down his shirt!

One of my favorite photos ever! I want to remember his little hands around my neck forever.

9.

A photo of your mother pre-ceremony. I gave a little gift to my Mom right before we had to leave for the ceremony site. It was a hand embroided handkerchief with a letter to my Mom. I am really happy we got some photos of her opening it!

10.

A photo of your father before the wedding begins. A week or so before the big day, I wrote a letter to my Dad thanking him for everything he has done for me. I wanted him to have a special momento from the wedding just for me. He walked me down the aisle and married us, so I did my best to express my gratitude for all his help on making our day amazing.

11.

The groom writing out his vows. I love these just SO much!

12.

The Groom putting on his tie or bow-tie. I was cracking up looking through these shots of my sweet groom watching youtube to figure out how to put his bow-tie on!

13.

The groomsmen pre-ceremony. I love these casual and natural captures of Nate and his groomsen sitting on the front porch. They were drinking beer and spending some calm time together before heading to our house for the madness to begin!

I am SOO happy that we have a photo of the groomsmen + these two really important men not in the bridal party. Mike, who was our talented guitar player for the ceremony and unofficial DJ for the reception. And Judah, who ran around helping set up our ENTIRE wedding because Nate had a broken leg. Our wedding would not have happened without these two amazing men and we will forever be grateful for all their help!

14.

The best man and groom. Nate’s best man was his only brother Adrian, or “Uncle Taco” as our son Liam calls him. We are glad there are some shots of just them two.

15.

Detail shots. Close-ups of both the bride and groom’s accessories is a must! The bride’s veil, the groom’s shoes, vow books, the rings, the bridesmaids bouquets etc. All the little details before the party begins!

Home education with a busy crazy toddler... oh, th Home education with a busy crazy toddler... oh, the struggle is real πŸ˜†
He craves constant attention, needs a snack every 35 minutes, wants to climb on everything and everyone around him, and he cannot communicate his needs yet, but has THE biggest emotions.
My older son struggles with concentrating on his work anyways, so throw a loud toddler in the mix that just wants brother to play with him... it can feel chaotic.

So we take lots of wiggle and play breaks and it really benefits us all. I get 10 min to clean up or kick my feet up. The boys get to spend quality time together, use their imaginations, run around, and get their wiggles out.
And I'm trying to get better at setting up mess-free activities and busy work for Theo to keep him occupied for longer.
It hit me today as I observed this absolutely adorable scene of them playing restaurant while I made lunch...
If Liam was in school, Theo would only see him a few hours a day during the week and on weekends. They'd both be missing out on so much.

I know that's "normal" for any family's that choose public school, and there's of course nothing wrong with that at all. I'm just glad we all get to spend our days together, even when they're difficult.

This life we have chosen can be so draining. I am really starting to feel the exhaustion that comes along with pregnancy these days. But I see so many beautiful moments like this throughout the week, and I feel very blessed indeed that we get to do life this way.
Yesterday we visited @seaquestlynchburg and had su Yesterday we visited @seaquestlynchburg and had such an amazing time ! The highlights were the stingrays showing off and squirting water at us, and the birds eating out of Liam's hand. For Theodore, it was all just fascinating. Every animal got an "ooo" and "awww" and wide eyes and a pudgy little finger pointing at it or a little hand excitedly waving high.
Then we spent some time at the little toddler play area in the mall where Theo hugged every kid there and had the biggest smile on his face the whole time.
I would say this week's homeschool field trip was a success!
Next week we're checking out our local library, and the week after that, the children's museum.
It's always so fun to explore a new area. ☺️

I don't always get a few quiet moments to myself, I don't always get a few quiet moments to myself, but when I do, I make the most of it !
I put on a homemaker or homesteading podcast, light a candle, sip hot tea...
It gives me time to slow down and take deep breaths, and relax a bit. (And I'll be honest, this time often also has a good snack involved or some dark chocolate I hid on the top shelf of the pantry πŸ˜†)

I spent some time yesterday during nap time restocking some herbs in my new apothecary cabinet. I filled jars of nettle, peppermint, red raspberry leaf, and rosemary. These dark amber jars are on Amazon and pretty perfect for storing herbs !
I'm dreaming of what herbs I'll be drying from my garden to add to these shelves 🀩

I'm curious- if you use herbs in your home, what are your top 3 most used ?
S'mores, burning brush, snuggling up with a blanke S'mores, burning brush, snuggling up with a blanket, and admiring our new house on the hill.

We've been busy setting up our new home, finding places for everything, and thrifting some furniture. Theo is already use to the new house and his new room. He loves the playroom in the basement and having a real bath tub!
Liam had his first playdate on Friday, and we're planning out his lego table this week. Nate has been busy fixing things around the house and helping me hang art and things all over.
It feels good to be finding a new rythm again. To have a regular bath night, and cooking big meals we eat around the table my grandpa built. We're dreaming of the garden this Spring, what fencing we can put up for animals, what color to paint the house...
and it just feels so so good to be in our own home again where we can do what we want and plan and dream for the future.
We got this gorgeous 1964 Thomasville china hutch We got this gorgeous 1964 Thomasville china hutch for $100 off FB marketplace! 🀩 It took 2 trips an hour away to bring this big gal home.
This is by far my most favorite piece of furniture I've ever owned. My original plan for this piece was to hold and display all my china, tea cups, and table linens.
But I also needed storage for all my herbs, herbal books, tinctures, salves, etc. I added a few jars of herbs and knew this needed to be a moody apothecary cabinet stat!
I threw a bunch of other decor and little things I love in there. I'm sure I'll rearrange it a dozen times before I love it. My goal is for two whole shelves to be filled with dried herbs from our garden by Fall. 🀍
I've got candles in a drawer, tablecloths in another, and the top drawer is random things, supplies and tinctures. The right cupboard is holding all my vases & jars, and the left cupboard is holding all my herbal and homesteading magazines.

What is the best FB marketplace find you've scored ??
I think this is my favorite!
