We just celebrated finishing our latest read aloud with our little homeschool co-op group- Anne of Green Gables. And I have to say, this has been my most favorite book club celebration yet. The weather was perfect, the costumes were great, the spread was delicious… and I felt like Anne Shirley would have really appreciated the little details I added in here and there. It was easy with this book club to go overboard, and I had to restrain myself from spending a small fortune on this party. I adore tea parties (even my bridal shower was tea party themed) and I dream of weekly garden parties with lace tablecloths, petite fours, full skirts, and bottomless cups of tea. So hosting May’s book club was an obvious choice for me.

Like all of our book club celebrations, I created a sign-up sheet for our co-op members to bring a dish to share. Our menu was delicious and heavy on the sweets. There are so many dishes and treats mentioned in the book, it’s easy to choose themed food. There is even an Anne of Green Gables Cookbook!
Menu:
- fresh strawberries
- watermelon
- biscuits with butter and my homemade strawberry jam
- tea cookies
- tea sandwiches
- ice cream
- raspberry cordial
- lemonade
- sweet tea
- hot tea
I didn’t have an activity planned for this book club, because I figured the kids would just play in the backyard on the swing set and in the playhouse. I tried to print out these adorable Anne of Green Gables paper dolls for the kids to play with, but had some issues. So we just enjoyed a picnic in the front yard and then the kids played in the backyard. We ended the party with cups of ice cream and I sent each child home with a piece of taffy, like Anne and Diana made in the book.
I so wish I took more photos of the kids enjoying the picnic and playing, but I was busy hosting and socializing. I always wish I could have a photographer at these things to worry about the photos while I enjoy myself. But I did get plenty of shots of the food table to share with you.

The decor
All the decorations I already had in my home. The only thing I picked up from the thrift store were a couple of doilies and a funny straw hat. The tablecloths, platters, cake stands, tea cups etc. I love that grandma aesthetic, what can I say?
