It was very difficult for me to narrow down my favorite summer books for mamas. There are just SO many good books! So I went with the very first books that came to my mind in different categories. Here are my top summer reads for moms 2024….

For the homemaker: Holy Hygge – creating a place for people to gather and the gospel to grow by Jamie Erickson. I really love this book because it gives really lovely ideas on how to live a gospel-centered hygge lifestyle. I was all about the hygge lifestyle when it first gained popularity here in America. I never thought about how you can take those same principles and keep Jesus at the heart of your home. I think this book would make a sweet hostess gift or housewarming gift.

For someone who likes fairytales: The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert. I read this a few years ago but would re-read this one. I just remember really enjoying it and not wanting to put it down. It is a little dark, as most classic fairy tales are.

For anyone: Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens is one of my absolute favorite books and they now have a movie about it! SO so good and a perfect Summer read. Another book I love to read in the Summer is The Secret Life of Bees by Sue Monk Kidd. I first read that one in high school and have dreamt of being a beekeeper ever since.

For the new homeschool mama: The Brave Learner by Julie Bogart, The Call of the Wild + Free by Ainsley Arment, and the Unhurried Homeschooler are all books that I recommend to every new homeschool family. They each are such amazing resources and can be your own personal cheerleader as you take the leap and start homeschooling your children. Wild +Free was the reason I started homeschooling- I read the book before we pulled my son out of school in 2020, and it was the confirmation and inspiration that I needed to make the big decision.

For the mama wanting to reconnect with her kids: Positive Parenting – An Essential Guide- Ending the Power Struggles and Reconnecting from the Heart. I have read so many parenting books, it was hard to narrow this down, but I recently read this one as I have been struggling with one of my children. It is full of real practical solutions to different parenting struggles. Right now I am currently reading The Creative Family Manifesto: Encouraging Imagination and Nurturing Family Connections by Amanda Blake Soule. Its a really sweet book about how to infuse creativity into your daily family life, and what the benefits are from that.

For the boy mama: Raising Boys To Men- A Simple Mercifully Short Book on Raising and Homeschooling Boys by Durenda Wilson. Even if you aren’t a homeschooling family, this book is a must-read if you have boys. I have three boys myself, and I know I will be going back to this book over the years to read all my dog-eared pages and different things I have underlined and circled. I also really enjoy the Durenda Wilson podcast. She has a solid biblical worldview that I align with.

For the homesteader– I have read a lot of books lately about different farm animals, so if you want specific recommendations on beekeeping, fiber animals, gardening, dairy goats etc- I can steer ya in the right direction. I am still trying to research as much as I can on what animals is best for our homestead. But for a general homesteading book, this book The Sustainable Homestead by Angela Ferraro-Fanning is a good start. Create a thriving permaculture ecosystem with your garden, animals and land.

For the newbie herbalist- The Backyard Apothecary – Effective Medicinal Remedies Using Commonly Found Herbs & Plants by Devon Young. This is a really great resource! This was one of the first books I bought when I first started my herbalist journey back in 2018. If you are interested in learning how to treat different ailments the natural way with plants and herbs from your own backyard, this book is for you!

What are you reading this Summer? I have a huge stack of books I need to dive into, but I am always adding more books to my must-read list.
