One of the things I love most about homemaking is how it naturally shifts with the seasons. The meals on our table, the rhythms of our cleaning, the little projects in my hands—all of it flows with what’s happening outside my window.
June is the month where barefoot mornings spent outside is the norm and fireflies light up our forest at night. It’s full-on Summer weather here in Virginia, with long hot and humid days. We start to spend more time in creeks and less time in the kitchen.
This month, I’m leaning into seasonal homemaking not just as a routine, but as a form of worship—using my hands to bless my home, care for my family, and create beauty right where God has planted me.
Here’s a little peek into what I’m cooking, cleaning, and creating this month in our home:
What I’m Cooking
Summer brings lighter meals, garden veggies, and plenty of snacks for busy little hands. I try to keep things simple and fresh—meals that don’t keep me tied to the kitchen for hours.
This month’s seasonal staples:
- Fresh fruit trays with yogurt dip (perfect for hot afternoons)
- Grilled chicken and veggie skewers
- Smash burgers on the griddle grill
- Pasta salad with herbs and cucumbers
- Blueberry or zucchini muffins (a favorite for breakfast or snack)
- Homemade Italian sodas with homemade strawberry syrup (I used the strawberry tops leftover from making a big strawberry cobbler after a day at the strawberry patch)
- The perfect southern sweet tea
- Organic fruit freezer pops for treats
I also like to keep a batch of of assembled breakfast burritos in the fridge or freezer for quick protein-rich breakfasts we can warm up in the oven.

What I’m Cleaning
With longer days and more time outside, I’ve been focusing on keeping things tidy but simple. I’m not striving for spotless, but I am trying to stay ahead of clutter and dirt that sneaks in with summer fun.
This month’s cleaning rhythm includes:
- Washing windows to let the summer light shine in (my 3 year old loves this job)
- Decluttering the pantry
- Deep-cleaning the freezer (hello, popsicle drips)
- Wiping down baseboards and doorframes (grubby hands!)
- Daily quick sweeps of entryways and high-traffic areas
- Keeping up on washing everyone’s bed linens- my kids are so dirty every day and though we usually take a bath every night, there are evenings where the kids are just too exhausted and go straight to bed, soiling their sheets quicker than usual.
I try to choose one “deeper” task a week and involve the kids in small ways—it’s never perfect, but it’s always progress.

What I’m Creating
Creative work brings me joy, especially when it ties into the rhythms of home and family. This month, I’m making time for:
- Nature journaling with the kids
- Felt finger puppets for my preschooler as we work our way through the Adventures of Frog and Toad by A Year of Learning this Summer
- An essential oil first aid kit with rollerballs- sting reliever, boo boo roller, yucky tummy, muscle soother, and a bug repellent (I got the recipes and labels from the CBC Clubhouse- a monthly printable art subscription)
- Creating a simple centerpiece with wildflowers for the kitchen table (every week, all Summer long!)
Even small creative moments—like arranging flowers in a jar or sketching in the quiet—remind me that homemaking is about more than maintenance. It’s also about making beauty.

Seasonal homemaking isn’t about having it all together—it’s about being present. It’s noticing the gifts of the season and responding with gratitude. It’s cooking with what you have, cleaning with intention, and creating with joy.
Wherever this month finds you—overwhelmed or at peace, busy or restful—know this: the work you’re doing in your home matters. God sees your faithfulness in the everyday, and He delights in it.
Let’s keep leaning into this season, one meal, one chore, one beautiful moment at a time.
Blessings,
Nat
