There’s something timeless and tender about Frog and Toad. Their simple adventures, quiet wisdom, and unwavering friendship have charmed generations—and they’re just the kind of characters who deserve a party in their honor. This month, we hosted a Frog and Toad Book Club Party with our wild+free nature co-op, and it turned out to be one of our most memorable gatherings yet. From hands-on nature study and themed snacks to crafts inspired by the stories, this celebration was a beautiful blend of learning and delight. Whether you’re a homeschooler, a book-loving family, or just looking for a sweet way to connect with your kids, I’m sharing all the details so you can host your own Frog and Toad book club, too.

Using A Year of Learning to further our literature adventure
Throughout the whole month of June, my littles and I worked our way through A Year Of Learning – Adventures with Frog and Toad. This is a literature and nature-based learning collection. It was SO fun, and only took us about 10 minutes a day to do. Our Book Club celebration was a perfect ending to this fun study. If you want to read more about this collection, I wrote a whole blog post about it here.

Book Club
Costumes are always encouraged, and though this time it was not as easy to dress up as the characters, a lot of us wore green. I made my boys these fun frog and toad headbands (Inspo from Pinterest!) They were so easy to make and they loved them. I just used scraps of felt, a bit of poly-fil, a simple blanket stitch, some hot glue, and a dollar tree headband.

We ate delicious food on the porch, chatted about the book, did a simple craft, and then played in the splash pad and hose. It was such a humid day so water was a must!

The Food
The food table is always the star at our book clubs, and I always love to see how it all comes together, with everyone bringing dishes and drinks to share. This is a great way to try new foods and get creative!
- Ants on a log
- Wild blackberries from our yard
- Spinach & cheese waffles
- 3 types of finger sandwiches
- Cake with fresh berries
- Cookies
- Cucumbers (lilypads)
- pretzels (twigs)
- Blue Jello in small plastic cups with gummy candy frogs (ponds)
- Cheese
- Ice cream
- Fresh lemonade
- Fresh fennel tea
We finished the day with chocolate and vanilla ice cream cones with sprinkles (Trader Joes has dye-free sprinkles now!) and they dripped and melted as fast as they did in the story!

The craft
Our orginal craft was to make kites, but it said it was going to rain all day, so we skipped that craft and just colored simple frog and toad face masks (from A Year of Learning- Adventures of Frog and Toad Collection) and I laid out coloring pages for them to take home.

This life cycle board is used very often in our homeschool.

The Decor
I got the faux cattails from Hobby Lobby and used rocks to hold it up in a rustic container then topped with mulch. I layered a burlap runner over my most-used gingham tablecloth. I cut lily pads from green paper of different sizes and scattered those around the table. I set out some books about frogs and toads, and the felt frog and toads that I made (templates were from A Year of Learning)
I made this Frog and Toad banner and I loved how it turned out so much! I may even sell it on Etsy. I wish I had more photos of the banner – it turned it so cute!

I hope this gave you some ideas and inspiration to throw your own Frog and Toad celebration! Literature and parties are two of my absolute favorite things, and I really do just love these book club parties. You can keep it as simple or make it as elaborate as you want. Either way, a good book is worth celebrating, and these little gatherings can make a story really come to life!
Blessings,
Nat
